Ümıt közı (A Thread of Hope) | TSELINNY
Original score and sound design for a video campaign (1 main piece + 14 vignettes).
Commissioned by the Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture (2025).
Dir. Aisultan Seitov.
Material
Commissioned for the launch of the Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture. The visual frame spans one main video and 14 vignettes, featuring contemporary practitioners across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Uyghur communities, including inclusive theatre.
Framework
For the first time in my practice, I stepped outside the strictly Kazakh canon. I personally recorded Uzbek, Uyghur, and Kyrgyz instruments, approaching them not as isolated cultural archives, but as raw acoustic elements. The challenge was structural: the region holds deeply rooted, yet historically fragmented musical traditions.
Structure
The objective was to synthesize these disparate elements into a singular, highly dynamic contemporary language. The composition strips away regional exoticism to extract the semantic core of Central Asia, translating a complex, multi-ethnic heritage into the dense, precise rhythm of a modern image campaign.
